How to convert Premiere Project to EDL
Convert a Premiere Pro project to EDL online. CutConvert reads the .prproj, no Premiere required, and writes a CMX 3600 edit decision list per sequence: numbered events, source and record timecode, clip names, and a reel list. For conform in Resolve, Avid, Flame or Baselight, or for a colour session that needs the cut and nothing else.
Add your .prproj file
Drag the Premiere Pro project onto the drop zone. It is decompressed and read locally.
Convert
Press Convert. The project is read in your browser: sequences, tracks, clips, source ranges and media references. The preview shows the first rows before anything is downloaded.

Premiere project and CMX 3600 EDL, explained
The CMX 3600 EDL is the oldest interchange format in post and still the one every finishing system reads. Premiere can export one, but only per sequence, only from inside Premiere, and only with a licence. This converter writes the same list from the project file: V1 with A1 and A2, one event per clip, record and source timecode at the sequence rate, an eight-character reel per media file, and comments that carry the full clip and file names so the destination can relink.
A CMX 3600 edit decision list written straight from the .prproj: events, source and record timecode, clip names, reel list. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.
Premiere Project to EDL FAQ
Does it need Premiere Pro?
No. The .prproj is decoded directly, the same reading behind the Premiere Project to XML converter.
Which tracks end up in the EDL?
A CMX 3600 EDL carries one video track and two audio tracks. Each sequence becomes an EDL with V1, A1 and A2. If a sequence has more video tracks, V2 and above are written as separate EDLs; audio beyond A2 is left out and the converter says so in a warning.
Why are all events cuts?
The converter reads clip positions and source ranges, not transitions. A dissolve becomes a hard cut at the clip boundary. For a conform that is usually what you want; for a finishing session, apply the transitions in the destination.
What are the reel names?
Eight-character upper-case names derived from each media file name, made unique per EDL, the way the CMX format requires. A comment block at the end of the EDL maps every reel name back to the full media file name, and each event carries FROM CLIP NAME and SOURCE FILE comments, so Resolve and Avid can relink by name.
Drop-frame or non-drop-frame?
Non-drop-frame, at the sequence timebase, and the header says so (FCM: NON-DROP FRAME). A 29.97 or 59.94 sequence still converts; if your NLE asks on import, choose non-drop.
Which timecode does the source side use?
Source in and out count from the start of the media file, because that is what the project stores. Record in and out are the timeline positions, including the sequence start timecode (Resolve's 01:00:00:00, for example).
Is the project uploaded?
No. The project is read and the EDL written in your browser. Nothing leaves your machine.

Your files travel over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, convert on CutConvert's servers, and come straight back to you as a download. CutConvert never sells or shares your media.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Small, everyday batches are free to convert. For large or high-volume jobs you'll create an account and upgrade, which keeps the free tier fast for everyone.
What do I get when I convert multiple files?
Drop several files and you get back one ZIP archive containing every converted file. Convert a single file and you get that one file back, no ZIP.
Which formats are supported?
You can convert EDL to CSV; SRT and VTT subtitles to each other and to plain text; SRT, TXT, and DOCX/DOC transcripts to Premiere Pro transcript JSON; SRT to Avid Media Composer caption TXT; and Premiere Pro .prtranscript exports to SRT, VTT, or text, with speaker labels preserved. More post-production formats are on the way.
Can I pick a frame rate?
Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output you can choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, or 30 fps, or let CutConvert auto-detect it from your source.
