MCC captions and CSV spreadsheet, explained
The .mcc format outlived its creator: MacCaption is retired, CaptionMaker is Windows-only and paid, and nothing else opens the format — which is a problem when a deliverable comes back from a vendor and someone asks what's in it. This converter decodes the CEA-708 caption data and produces a review spreadsheet: one row per caption, exact timing, readable text. Is the decoding verified?
Yes — the CEA-708 decoding is validated against the same reference caption data used across our broadcast converters, with round-trip testing.
Does positioning or styling carry into the CSV?
No — the CSV carries timing and text, which is what review and QC need. Position codes have no spreadsheet representation.
Can I get an SRT instead?
