Premiere transcript and SRT subtitles, explained
Premiere Pro's text-based editing stores transcripts as a static transcript JSON (the .prtranscript spec). That format is great inside Premiere but not portable — this converter turns it back into SRT so you can caption, share, or reuse it anywhere.
Turn a Premiere Pro .prtranscript (static transcript JSON) into clean, timed SRT subtitles you can use anywhere. It is free to start, encrypted in transit, and converts a whole batch into one ZIP — sign in when you need large, high-volume jobs.
Premiere Transcript to SRT FAQ
Can I just rename .prtranscript to .srt?
No. A .prtranscript is Premiere's static transcript JSON, not subtitle text — the structure is completely different from SRT. This converter reads the segments, words, and speaker turns and writes a properly timed .srt.
What exactly is a .prtranscript file?
It is how Premiere Pro's text-based editing stores transcripts — a static transcript JSON following the .prtranscript spec. It works great inside Premiere but is not portable, which is why converting to SRT is the easiest way to get captions out.
Is the timing preserved in the SRT?
Yes. Each transcript segment becomes a standards-compliant SRT cue with its timing preserved, so the subtitles line up with your edit.
What if I need WebVTT for a web player instead?
Use the Premiere transcript to VTT converter at /prtranscript/vtt — it maps the same transcript segments to WebVTT cues for HTML5 <track> elements and web players.
What does it cost?
Free to start. Guests convert up to 3 files per batch at up to 1 MB each; a free account raises that to 5 files and 30 conversions a month, and paid plans support 20 MB files and larger batches.

Questions, answered
Where are my files processed?
Your files are uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and converted on CutConvert’s servers, then handed straight back to you as a download. We never sell or share your media.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Small, everyday batches are free to convert. For large or high-volume jobs you’ll create an account and upgrade — which keeps the free tier fast for everyone.
What do I get when I convert multiple files?
Drop several files and you get back one ZIP archive containing every converted file. Convert a single file and you simply get that one file — no unnecessary ZIP.
Which formats are supported?
You can convert EDL to CSV; SRT and VTT subtitles to each other and to plain text; SRT, TXT, and DOCX/DOC transcripts to Premiere Pro transcript JSON; SRT to Avid Media Composer caption TXT; and Premiere Pro .prtranscript exports to SRT, VTT, or text — with speaker labels preserved. More post-production formats are on the way.
Can I pick a frame rate?
Yes. For EDL and Avid caption output you can choose 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, or 30 fps, or let CutConvert auto-detect it from your source.
