Filmora to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut

By Greg Thompson, Founder, CutConvertPublished

CutConvert can't convert Filmora projects (.wfp) yet. Filmora 16.0 and later can export the timeline with File > Export > Final Cut Pro 7 XML. Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve import that XML directly, and CutConvert turns it into FCPXML for Final Cut Pro or an AAF for Avid. Older Filmora versions export only video and SRT subtitles.

CutConvert can't convert .wfp files yet. Each project dropped here counts as a vote for building a converter. The file stays on your computer. We record its file type and size, not its contents.

A Filmora project file (.wfp) only opens in Filmora. Wondershare's own guide says so, and CutConvert can't read .wfp files yet either. What you can do depends on your Filmora version. Filmora 16.0, released in September 2026, added an XML export. Older versions can only export video and subtitles.

Filmora 16 and later: export XML

  1. Open the project in Filmora.
  2. Choose File > Export > Final Cut Pro 7 XML and save the .xml next to your media.
  3. Import it in the other editor. In Premiere Pro, File > Import and pick the .xml. In DaVinci Resolve, File > Import > Timeline. The clips point at your media where Filmora had it.

Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer don't read Final Cut Pro 7 XML. CutConvert does. Drop the .xml on FCP7 XML to Final Cut Pro for an FCPXML, on FCP7 XML to Avid AAF for Media Composer, on FCP7 XML to a DaVinci Resolve project for a .drp, or on FCP7 XML to CapCut. These pages are named for Premiere Pro, and they read any Final Cut Pro 7 XML.

We haven't tested Filmora's XML yet. Expect the cuts and the clip order to come across. Filmora's effects, filters, stickers and AI tools have no match in other editors, and Wondershare doesn't say which of them the XML keeps. If a Filmora XML fails in CutConvert, drop the .wfp in the box above so we know.

Filmora 15 and earlier

There's no timeline export before 16.0. Your options are:

  • Update to Filmora 16 or later and export XML. Filmora 15.0.1 added File > Save As Legacy Project, which saves for older Filmora versions, so updating doesn't lock your older copies out of the project.
  • Export a video and edit that. It's one flattened file, so you can't retrim shots or fix the mix in the other editor.
  • Export the subtitles as SRT. Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve import SRT directly. For Final Cut Pro, SRT to editable Final Cut titles keeps the words and timing as titles. For Media Composer, SRT to Avid SubCap TXT.

Why the .wfp file doesn't open anywhere else

The .wfp holds your edit as references to media by name and location. Wondershare doesn't publish the format, and no other editor reads it. That's the gap a .wfp converter would close: an edit from any Filmora version, opened in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut with the clips separate and linked.

Whether we build it depends on how many people need it, and each .wfp dropped in the box above counts.

FAQ

Can Premiere Pro open a Filmora project? Not the .wfp file. Filmora 16.0 and later can export Final Cut Pro 7 XML with File > Export, and Premiere Pro imports that XML with File > Import.

Can I move a Filmora project to DaVinci Resolve? Yes, from Filmora 16.0 on. Export Final Cut Pro 7 XML from Filmora and import it in Resolve with File > Import > Timeline. Older versions can only export video and SRT subtitles.

Does Filmora export XML? Since version 16.0 (September 2026), yes: File > Export > Final Cut Pro 7 XML, on Windows and Mac. Earlier versions have no XML, EDL or AAF export.

Can Final Cut Pro open Filmora's XML? Not directly. Final Cut Pro reads FCPXML, not Final Cut Pro 7 XML. Drop the Filmora XML on CutConvert's FCP7 XML to Final Cut converter and import the FCPXML it gives you.

Can CutConvert convert a .wfp file? Not yet. Drop it in the request box on this page and we count it. The file stays on your computer; we record only its type and size.

What happens to Filmora effects? They don't exist in other editors, so they won't come across as effects. We haven't tested what Filmora's XML keeps of them. Expect to rebuild effects, filters and stickers in the new editor.
